Norman Kirk Memorial Pool is Lyttelton's only public pool, tucked above the harbour on Oxford Street with views across to the Port Hills. It's a six-lane 25-metre outdoor pool with a separate paddling pool for toddlers, so you can get some laps in while little ones splash nearby. Ramp entry and wheelchair access make it easy for anyone to get in and out.

It only runs over summer, roughly mid-November to late January for casual visitors (members with a season key can keep swimming into autumn). There's a picnic area if you want to make a day of it, and a grassy spot to dry off in the sun. Parking is on the street, and the bus 8 and 155 both stop close to the entrance if you'd rather not drive.

Being outdoors and unheated by shade, it's obviously a fair-weather option, not one for a rainy day. Locals like it for being smaller and quieter than the big city pools, which suits younger kids who want room to muck about without a crowd.
