Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre in Somerfield is a council-run pool and gym complex built around a warm leisure pool with a lazy river and a wave machine that runs for a few hours each day, plus a shallow toddler pool with dumping buckets and fountains for the very young. There's also a 25-metre lane pool, a teach pool used for Swimsmart lessons, and a spa pool for kids aged three and up.
Upstairs, the Sensory Centre offers lighting and sound equipment for kids and adults who do better in a calmer space; sessions need booking. Preschoolers get free casual swims with a paying adult during school hours, and Plunge Café does coffee and snacks if you want to hang around. Parking is at both the front and back entrances, with lifts up to the sensory space and dance studios.
