Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre is Christchurch's huge new leisure and sports complex on Saint Asaph Street in the central city, opened in December 2025. It's the largest indoor aquatic and recreation venue in the country, with a 50m competition pool, dive pool, sports courts and gym all under one roof, alongside the leisure side that's the real drawcard for kids.

Little ones can potter about in the toddlers' pool and splash deck, while older kids head for the tube slide, three body slides and the trapdoor slide (riders must be at least five years old, with height and weight limits on the bigger slides). The Sensory Aqua Centre is a calmer, beach-entry option with bubble columns and water jets, good for younger children or those who find busy pools a lot.

There's free parking for the first two hours, a café for coffee and pizza, and change rooms with baby change tables throughout the building. It's a genuinely big place, so plan on spending a good few hours if you want to get through the pools, slides and courts in one visit.
