Privacy Policy

Funday ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use our website and mobile app (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Information we collect
- Favourites and preferences. When you save a favourite or set an age preference, that information is stored locally on your own device (in your browser or app). It is not linked to your identity and is not sent to us as personal information.
- Usage and analytics. We record usage data — such as which pages and listings are viewed, which links are tapped, and general device and browser information — to understand what families find useful and to improve the Service. We use Google Analytics 4 for this, which places a cookie on your device containing a randomly generated identifier so that repeat visits from the same browser can be counted as one person rather than many. We do not give Google your name, email address or any other detail that identifies you, and we do not use this data to build advertising profiles. See your choices below.
- Approximate location. We may estimate your general region from your IP address to show you relevant local content. We do not track your precise location.
- Messages you send us. When you contact us, submit feedback or report a listing, we collect the details you choose to provide (for example, your message and, if you give it, your email address) so we can respond and act on it.
How we use your information
- To operate, maintain and improve the Service.
- To show you relevant local events, places and activities.
- To respond to your messages and reports.
- To keep the Service secure and prevent misuse.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and your device's local storage to keep the Service working — for example, to remember your favourites and preferences and to keep your session secure. You can clear this data at any time through your browser or device settings, though some features may stop working as expected.
Google Analytics also sets its own cookies (named _ga and _ga_…)
to measure visits as described above. These expire automatically, and clearing your
cookies removes them.
Your analytics choices
You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site you visit by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on, by turning on your browser's "Do Not Track" or tracking-protection settings, or by blocking cookies for this site. Opting out does not affect any part of the Service — everything keeps working exactly the same.
Third-party services
We rely on trusted third parties to provide the Service, and some information may be shared with or processed by them for that purpose:
- Google Analytics — to measure how the Service is used. Google processes this data on our behalf, and may store and process it on servers outside New Zealand. See Google's privacy policy.
- Mapbox — to display maps and location data.
- Eventfinda and Christchurch City Council — sources of event and venue listings.
- IP geolocation and hosting providers — to deliver the Service and estimate your general region.
These providers have their own privacy practices. We do not sell your personal information.
Children
Funday is designed for parents, caregivers and whānau to find activities for children. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention
We keep messages and reports for as long as needed to respond to them and improve the Service, and only as long as reasonably necessary. Analytics data held by Google Analytics expires automatically after 14 months; aggregate totals and trends derived from it may be kept longer, as they no longer relate to any individual device.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for access to, and correction of, any personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be made clear within the Service.
