Mānawa Kāwhiu, the Lyttelton Recreation Centre on Winchester Street, is the town's indoor sports and community hub, with a sports hall, two squash courts and Trinity Hall all under one roof.
During school term it runs Lyttel Tumblers on Thursday mornings, a Plunket-run tumble-time session where parents and caregivers bring preschoolers along to climb, crawl and jump on gym equipment, and there's a Saturday afternoon kids' ballet class in Trinity Hall. Squash racquets, balls and eyewear are free to use, and there's a table tennis table on the mezzanine too.
Casual hire of the sports hall or squash courts is easy to arrange if you fancy a game as a family rather than joining a class, and the centre doubles as a solid wet-weather option given everything is indoors.
