North Beach Playcentre is a small, parent-run early learning centre based at North New Brighton School, for kids from birth to five. Unlike a typical daycare, parents and caregivers stay and take part in sessions alongside their tamariki, so it suits families keen to be hands-on rather than drop off and go.

Kids get free play across areas like sand, art, blocks, dress-ups and outdoor climbing, with the setup changing regularly to keep things interesting. It's licensed for a decent group size, including a good number of under-twos, and it's a good way to meet other local families with young children. New whānau are usually invited to visit a few times before deciding to enrol.
