Leithfield Playcentre

Leithfield Playcentre is a small parent-run early learning centre in the seaside settlement of Leithfield, about 40 minutes north of Christchurch. It runs from a local community building and takes children from birth to school age, with mums, dads or caregivers staying and playing alongside their kids rather than dropping them off.
Sessions mix free play with hands-on stuff: painting, carpentry with real tools, baking, gardening, dress-ups and messy outdoor play, and the setup changes from week to week. Because it's a cooperative, older and younger children play together and parents pitch in to run the sessions, so it has a friendly, know-your-neighbours feel rather than a formal daycare vibe.
