Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre on Cass Street is Waimakariri's indoor pool, open all year regardless of the weather. There's a 6-lane 25m pool for lane swimming, plus a warmer learners' pool with a waterfall running down into a shallow toddlers' area with a beach-style entry, so littlies can potter about while older kids swim laps.
It suits the whole family, from babies in the toddler pool through to adults doing laps or aquarobics, though under-fives need an adult in the water with them. There's a conservatory picnic area where you can eat lunch or dinner while keeping an eye on the kids in the pool, and parking is free. The centre also runs learn-to-swim lessons and birthday pool parties, and gets busy with lessons on weekday afternoons, so recreational lane space can be limited around 3.30pm to 6pm.
