Leeston Playcentre on May Street is a parent-run early childhood group for kids aged 0 to 5. It's not a drop-off centre: mums, dads and other caregivers stay and play alongside their children, taking turns running sessions and having a say in how things work. The purpose-built space has play areas already set up when you arrive, plus a covered deck outside so wet weather doesn't end the morning early.
New families are offered a few visits to see if it's a good fit before enrolling, and there's a free parenting and education programme built in for those who join up. It suits parents keen to get properly involved in their child's early learning rather than just leave them at the door, and it's also a solid way to meet other families in the area.
