Pleasant Point Playcentre is a parent-run early learning centre on Harris Street, out in this small South Canterbury township well beyond Christchurch's day-trip range. It's a stay-and-play setup, so you or another caregiver join in with the session rather than dropping the kids off, with a paid facilitator running the morning alongside parent volunteers.
It caters for babies through to five-year-olds, with free play, outdoor time and messy activities the main focus, and it's a genuinely small, close-knit group rather than a big centre. New families are offered a few taster visits before deciding to enrol, and there's an adult learning programme built in for parents who want to pick up some early childhood know-how alongside their kids.
