Parkside Playcentre is a parent-led early childhood group in Parkside, Timaru, for kids aged 0 to 6. Rather than dropping the children off, mums, dads and other caregivers stay for the session and get stuck in themselves, setting up whatever is on that day, from sandpit play and dress-ups to baking, carpentry with real tools and messy craft.
Sessions run one morning a week, so it pays to check the day before heading over. New families are welcome to a few free visits to see if it suits before enrolling, and there is no need to book for those. It works well for parents keen to make friends with other local families as much as for littlies who like open-ended, changeable play rather than a set programme.
