Little River Playcentre meets in the school grounds on Western Valley Road, out on the road to Akaroa. It's a parent-run early learning session for the under-fives, so you stay and play alongside your child rather than drop them off. Expect free play with typical Playcentre gear: sandpit, blocks, art and imaginative play, all set up and packed away by the parents on duty that day.
It suits littlies from babies through to school age, and it's a good option if you're new to the Little River or wider Banks Peninsula area and want to meet other local families. Sessions run a few mornings a week, so check times before heading out, and you can visit a few times before deciding to enrol.
Being small and community-run, don't expect fancy facilities, but it's a genuine, low-key spot for kids to get messy and make friends while parents get to know the neighbourhood.
