Cust West Eyreton Playcentre runs from the Cust Community Centre on Mill Road, a rural playcentre for families in the Cust and West Eyreton area northwest of Christchurch. It's a parent-run cooperative, so mums, dads or caregivers stay and play alongside their kids rather than dropping them off, and everyone pitches in to run the session.
Littlies get free rein over dress-ups, painting, sandpit play, gardening, baking and even carpentry with real tools, with activities changing session to session. It suits babies through to school age, and the small numbers mean a fairly relaxed, hands-on morning rather than a big structured programme.
New families can visit a few times before deciding to enrol, which is handy if you're not sure playcentre's cooperative style is for you. Being part of the wider Community Centre, there's parking on site, and it's worth bringing a change of clothes given how messy things can get.
