Culverden Playcentre

Culverden Playcentre is a small, parent-led early childhood centre on Montrose Avenue in Culverden, about an hour's drive north of Christchurch. It's set up for the under-fives, and instead of dropping the kids off, parents and caregivers stay and play alongside them. Sessions are built around free play, art, dress-ups, carpentry and time outdoors, with different activities set up depending on the day.
It suits families who want to get properly involved rather than watch from the sidelines, and it's a good way to meet other parents in a small rural community. New whānau are welcome to come along and visit a few times before deciding whether to join, so there's no pressure to commit on the first visit.
