Ashburton Playcentre

Ashburton Playcentre is a parent-led early learning centre on Park Street in central Ashburton, about an hour south of Christchurch, right next to Ashburton Borough School. The centre has been recently remodelled inside, with a big open floor area and plenty of play stations, and the outdoor space has a grassed hill, swings, a slide, a large fort, a sandpit and water play.
It's set up for kids from birth to five, and the parent-led model means you stay and play alongside your child rather than dropping them off. Regular morning sessions run through the week, with extra afternoon groups aimed at babies and new parents. There's no need to book, though it isn't free, and new families can visit a few times before deciding whether to enrol.
